The Internet corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has launched a new online course on Universal Acceptance, the state in which all web applications, devices, and systems correctly and uniformly accept, verify, store, process, and display all available Domain Names (IDNs) and email addresses (EAI).

In 6 online lessons, the user learns about the key principles of Universal Аcceptance of all available domain names and email addresses, the importance of Universal Acceptance for individual stakeholders and the global Internet community, the technical aspects and ways to become part of this process.

For example in Russia there are Regional working group on Universal Adoption and the project “Поддерживаю.РФ” (means “I support dot RF"). It’s a project for developing an ecosystem of supporting domain names and email addresses in national languages, primarily those included in the Russian national domain zone (.РФ, .ДЕТИ, .МОСКВА, .РУС, .SU). The project's website, in particular, maintains a catalog of software and services tested for IDN and EAI support. It also provides trainings on various aspects of Universal Acceptance for developers, integrators, and cybersecurity professionals.

In the third lesson, dedicated to the expansion of the domain name system (DNS), the student will meet with .ДЕТИ (means “dot children”) as one of the examples of IDN – internationalized domain names, using national alphabets. Domain .ДЕТИ uses the Russian Cyrillic alphabet.

According to the authors of the course, it will be useful for technology developers, software and email service providers, government officials, as well as the Internet community. Training is available on the ICANN Learn platform for free after registration.
